Atopic dermatitis - more commonly known as neurodermatitis or atopic eczema - is a chronic, inflammatory skin disease that is widespread in industrialized countries and is characterized by severe dry skin and particularly severe itching.

Atopic means that those affected tend to develop certain diseases that are characterized by general hypersensitivity or allergies.
